Categories: Announcements

Are you looking for global connections, an inclusive community and inspiration?

Join the Global Voices 2017 Summit [1] in Colombo, Sri Lanka on December 2-3 to meet inspiring activists, bloggers, journalists and influencers from 60 countries!

At the Summit, we’ll be discussing the evolving state of the open Internet, the future of online conversations, and human rights in the digital age. In interactive sessions, panels, and debates, we will delve into complex issues ranging from misinformation and disinformation to corporate hijinks to legal threats against bloggers and activists—all challenges that could make or break the future of the internet.

Since 2006, Global Voices Summits have brought together the most innovative and inspiring digital activist and citizen media communities from around the world. Past Summits in London [2], New Delhi [3], Budapest [4], Santiago de Chile [5], Nairobi [6] and Cebu City [7] have strengthened community ties, sparked new friendships, and served as a catalyst for new ideas and collaborations across borders.

Even though the Summit will bring together guests from around the world, we actively seek to include local perspectives and experiences during these conversations. To ensure that Sri Lankans from a wide variety of backgrounds are able to take part in our Summit, Global Voices in partnership with Hashtag Generation [8] is offering Sri Lankan bloggers, digital activists, and digital journalists a chance to win a free two-day pass to attend the Summit.

Sri Lankans, here is how you can win a free two-day pass to join us at the 2017 Global Voices Summit:

1.) Upload a photograph or video of yourself on Instagram, Twitter, YouTube or Facebook that answers the following question: “How are you using the web to make the world more inclusive, safe or just?”
2.) Make sure you add the hashtag #SLVoices so that we can find your entry.
3.) Submit by November 7, 2017

We invite Sri Lankans from across the country to take part in this friendly competition.

If you live outside of Colombo and may need travel assistance to attend, please complete the steps listed above and submit some additional information in the following form [9]. Please note that we are unable to provide travel stipends to Sri Lankans living abroad.

A small committee of Global Voices and Hashtag Generation community members will review the entries and select up to 15 winners. Selected winners will be notified by November 14.
